CHAPTER THREE: The First Break

Eeteuk smiled affectionately as he helped Donghae out of his clothes. He had already drawn a bath and very carefully guided his younger friend down into the water. Donghae relaxed back and closed his eyes. He opened them briefly as he felt Eeteuk lift his hand and begin to trickle warm water over his fingers.

"You scared me. I haven't seen you that white since..."

"Since the first time I saw someone killed." Donghae finished quietly.

Eeteuk nodded a little and continued to barely wash the younger man's arm. Donghae pushed forward and sat up more, looking up at the older man.

"Those men who fight. They want to do it, right?"

The other man looked at Donghae curiously.

"I would assume so. I mean, they certainly live a very prosh lifestyle as long as they remain at the top of their game."

"But what happens when they start slipping?"

"Yah, I mean, when they start losing their edge. Do they get different jobs then?"

The frown that crossed Eeteuk's face briefly made Donghae's stomach flip.

"No, usually if they start slipping badly they don't get another chance."

"Eeteuk!" Donghae cried suddenly.

The older man quickly quieted his friend and gently tilted Donghae's chin up. He smiled warmly then, trying his best to calm the youth's nerves.

"Now we know that our Junsu would never do anything like that. He might be a criminal but he values his fighters too much. Besides, what made you ask such a question?"

Donghae thought back to his meeting with Hankyung. He started to wonder if he had been the only one at the party that had seen such pain in the man's eyes. Perhaps he had been imagining it. Still, he had thanked him for pulling the glass out despite his protests.

"It's... It's nothing. I'm just very tired." Donghae said softly.

Eeteuk just looked at Donghae for a long moment before leaning in and pressing his lips fully to the dark haired man's. Donghae's eyes went wide for the briefest of times before they fluttered shut. Some part of him twisted inside when it wasn't Eeteuk lips he felt, but the touch of a different set, cold eyes and white hair framing his face.

Eunhyuk stood inside Junsu's office. He looked tired and his hair was a virtual mess. It was far too early after such an event to be awake. He was currently studying a very uninteresting series of books on the far wall when the office door opened. Junsu stepped in looking very dapper in a fine gray suit with red necktie. He looked mildly suprised to see his friend standing there.

"Hyukjae? What are you doing here this early?"

Eunhyuk just ran his fingers mildly through his hair and then yawned. His eyes suddenly looked very old to Junsu. The other man became concerned and quickly crossed the room. He reached out his arms and gently embraced Eunhyuk's waist.

"You look terrible. Did you drink too much at the party last night?"

Eunhyuk shook his head and then looked very seriously at Junsu.

"We need to talk about Han."

Junsu tilted his head at that. He drew his arms back from Eunhyuk and placed a gentle hand on the crook of his back. The two men walked over to Junsu's desk. Eunhyuk sunk down in one of the rich red chairs in front of the mahogany desk. Junsu slipped behind, relaxing his back against his fine leather chair.

"What about Han?"

The trainer rubbed his face a couple times before taking in a deep breath. He then drew his eyes up to look at Junsu.

"It's not going to work."

"What do you mean 'It's not going to work'?" Junsu asked somewhat sharply.

"After three years Junsu he's still as messed up as ever. He still fights like he wants to die."

"Isn't that the purpose though? It's what the crowds are coming to see."

"They come to see a good fight, Junsu, not someone trying to self destruct in front of them."

"It adds to the drama, doesn't it?"

"I put up a very good front at the party last night. But I'm saying it right now. You put Hankyung up against someone, he'll either try and commit suicide or he'll kill his opponent."

Junsu was silent then. He picked up a pen on his desk and twirled it aimlessly between his fingers. The eerie quiet of the office seemed to fil the room. It was heavy and had a mild sensation of suffocation playing over the air.

"He will be at the event fight Saturday." Junsu finally stated.

Eunhyuk's expression changed slightly. He seemed to be somewhere between defiant and resigned. Sighing, he drew himself up from the chair.

"I used to love training fighters, Junsu. Even after it became a money maker, I still loved it. But now, I don't know. The fighters are Changmin, Jaejoong, Yoochun and my friends. I won't send a friend to die, not for anyone."

"I don't think Hankyung has friends." Junsu replied in a rather cold manner.

"He did. But that was all taken away from him." Eunhyuk replied softly.

Junsu's face claimed a look of suprise as Eunhyuk barely smiled at him.

"I believe in you still, Junsu. Despite who we are and what we do, I still hope you'll do the right thing. Money and power will fade in due time. I want to be able to say when it goes away I'm still with you."

With that, Eunhyuk turned and left the other man sitting at his desk. Junsu pondered over the words his long time friend had said. Ten minutes passed when the speaker on his desk came on suddenly, interrupting his thoughts.

"Junsu?" came a quiet female voice.

"Your investor is here about the Hankyung Saturday premiere."

"Ah, please send him in."

The doors opened automatically after a few seconds and a tallish man strode inside. His short hair was bleached a nearly unnatural color of yellowish blonde and he had a goatee barely growing in on his face. He wore a smart blue suit that fit his trim body nicely. Junsu stood and walked over, taking the man's hand in a cordial, business handshake.

"Minwoo, welcome."

Yoochun looked around the weight room and considered the current state of the building. He had been sent out by Xiah Junsu once againt to scout for a new fighter. It had been three years since Kim Kibum had brought back the "prize" of Junsu's collection.

The man sighed and ran his fingers through his slighly messy dark hair. The training center was of no real interest, but a lot cleaner than most of them that ran underground. There was a decent amount of equipment and the place actually didn't wreak of cigarettes like normal. He wandered around the room before approaching the next room over.

Inside there were two men standing near a punching bag. The smaller of the two had shortish black hair that went off to the side. He was somewhat feminine and rather pretty. The other man was taller with black hair that framed his face. He was sweating rather heavily and began a series of punches on the bag. Yoochun watched quietly as the smaller man sidestepped the bag swinging by. The taller of the two suddenly sprang back and with amazing athletic skill did a roundhouse kick and impacted the bag. The chain gave a loud crack and the object split from the top. It hit the ground and rolled a distance away. The smaller man let out a sound of distress.

"Oh no! We'll have to try and fix it before he gets up!S"

"Who gets up?"

The two suddenly looked over at Yoochun. The man let out a low whistle and then clapped softly. He walked in and smiled.

"Hey there." he said quietly.

"Hello." the smaller man responded just as quiet.

"And you are?"

"Ah, I'm Sungmin."

The man nodded, obviously a little flustered. The taller of the two moved forward flexing his tape covered hands. Yoochun narrowed his eyes, instinctively readying himself for a fight. Instead, the other man offered his hand out.

"I'm KyuHyun."

He nodded, a gentle smile on his face. Something about the two felt strangely familiar to Yoochun. The feeling settled into the pit of his stomach as he looked around the facilities.

"Do you two own this place?"

"No, we just work for the guy who does." Sungmin said, his smile suddenly bright.

"And who owns it?"

"Oh, he's in the office over there." KyuHyun pointed to the half open door. "But he's probably not awake."

Yoochun raised an eyebrow. Most facility owners and trainers were up at the break of dawn. It was well into mid morning already. Sungmin made a face and then did a gesture indicating tipping back a bottle to his mouth.

"Ah, I see." Yoochun said with a smirk. "Well, I need to speak to the owner."

"About what?" KyuHyun asked softly.

"About both of you. I represent Xiah Junsu."

"Xiah Junsu!" Sungmin squeaked then covered his mouth in embarrasment.

Yoochun couldn't help but smile again. The feelings began to rise up again. He couldn't pinpoint exactly why these two seemed to be so familiar in nature to him.

"Yes, he sent me to this training center to scout out the talent here. I must say it's been over three years since I've seen this kind of skill. You two work very well together."

KyuHyun wrapped his arm around Sungmin's shoulder, making the smaller man blush just a little bit.

"It's pretty easy when you have someone who believes in you."

Yoochun nodded and then pointed at the door.

"May I speak to the owner then? What I've seen of you two already is enough to make an investment."

Sungmin could hardly hold back his excitement as he almost bobbed up and down. KyuHyun was a lot more mild, though there was a sparkle in his eyes.

"If he's awake then please do. Otherwise just push him out of his chair and he usually wakes up when he hits the ground."

"Thank you so much."

Yoochun did a slight bow and then walked past the now giddy Sungmin and the calm KyuHyun. The duo was impressive that was for sure. They were still training in the old style of fighting. Perhaps that was why they felt so familiar to the other man. No one had done old school style in over three years.

The short haired man pushed open the door and looked inside. The images on the walls suddenly almost overpowered him. Pictures that he hadn't seen in what felt like an eternity stared back at him. The most prevalent one among the countless clippings and images was a framed photo. There were three men in the picture. A tall dark haired man stood to the left with strong eyebrows and incredibly dark eyes. To the right was a slender immigrant with longish, choppy light brown hair and a glowing smile. In the center was a stronger built man with a nearly shaven head, his face proud. Their hands were all set on top of a pile of money.

Yoochun's eyes went down to see that same man, his hair now grown out and plastered to his forehead. His head was on the desk, eyes shut almost painfully tight. The smell of cheap soju along with other liquors radiated through the small office space. His clothes were stained and wrinkled. His arm was off the desk, an empty bottle dangling from his hand.

The man opened his eyes barely and then looked over, blinking out the blur. He suddenly sat up as if he'd had cold water thrown on him. The two just stood there looking at each other before they both spoke at the same time.

Hankyung sat quietly on the floor of his apartment in Junsu's mansion. He carefully poured himself a cup of tea and watched the movement of trees outside of his spacious window. These times were few and far between when he allowed himself to focus on nothing but the tea and the view.

He sipped the liquid gently and watched as clouds began to roll in from the west. The seasons were changing and the rains were coming. The smell of it filled Hankyung's room and he closed his eyes, savoring the small favor nature had given him.

He opened his eyes slowly and then gazed down at his hand. He had finally went and cleaned his wound in the morning and bandaged it carefully. He had then started his training, Eunhyuk excusing himself to talk to Junsu. It mattered little to the Chinese man, Eunhyuk really didn't participate much in his schedule other than making sure he had a bottle of water available to him. The other fighters stayed out his way, and Changmin, Yoochun and Jaejoong rarely made a point of talking to him. He liked it that way.

But today as the first patter of rain began to touch the frames of his window he truly felt lonely. He didn't know if it had been last night's premiere that had triggered it, or the fact that his body wouldn't let him end it on the edge of one of the sword's blades. Whatever the case may be, some part of his wall was fracturing just a little bit. It was rare and he would make sure by his event debut on Saturday that the crack was fixed.

For now though he pondered on the emotion that was welling up. He thought about the fact that he had broken down and cried last night. Something he virtually never did. His mind then turned to the strange young man who had pulled the glass out his hand.

"Donghae." he whispered.

That was what the other man had called him as he led him back into the ballroom.

"Donghae." he whispered the name again as if trying out a new word.

The rain began to come down as Hankyung drank his tea in silence. He thought distantly that Siwon would have probably liked this Donghae a lot. Their smile was so similiar that for the first time in three years, Hankyung was frightened.

oww i hurt for hankyung T.T

but oh gawd, i think that scene in kangin (IT WAS KANGIN!)s office was so incredibly gorgeous and heartbreaking.

past memories of a happy hankyung and a happier shihan.

and the whole think with eunhyuk understanding hankyung, and how he lost everything, and hankyung still thinking 'shiwon would have...'

i feel like crying gahh...plus after watching Zhang Li Yin's new MV that was filled with shihan.... XD

That music video literally broke my heart... And I cried at the end, even though I knew what was coming! XD

I'm glad you enjoyed the scene with Kangin, that was actually the trickiest for me to write and I'm glad it came off so well! And there will be more Hannie and later HanHae torture to come! (I shouldn't sound so chipper about it, should I? =^^=)

And I am so prepping for the next Hanhae encounter as well as considering writing a random smutty SiHanHae short fic. Yummy! =^^=V
