Konbanwa, minnasan! I'm back with another chapter to my fic! Thank you so much for everyone's kind words and support. This chapter took me a lot longer to write because in this particular chapter, I'm not bouncing around as much as I normally do...

That, and I had an unexpected private situation come and finally got resolved after almost a week. Woot, finally!

I hope everyone enjoys! =^^=V

SUMMARY: AU Storyline~In the South Korean underworld, a popular form of entertainment is fighting matches. Men are judged by the fighters they own. A troubled fighter with a past catches the attention of two long time friends and may lead them both to the brink of obsession.

The next few days seem to float by in an unassuming manner after Hankyung's debut. Friday evening seemed to have arrived as suddenly as the premiere party finished. Junsu smiled at his dinner guests sitting at the expansive table. Shindong had made arrangements from his current jewel "deal" to arrive with Heechul. They sat chatting quietly to the left of the other man. He looked up as Eeteuk entered, Donghae in tow. Eeteuk was dressed handsomely in a long silk shirt and a necktie. Donghae however was clad in an oversized beanie, a red hooded sweatshirt and a pair of loose jeans.

"Well, Eeteuk, I see you managed to in least have Donghae dressed when you both arrived." Heechul said with a mild smirk. He was dressed in a very expensive slim fitting turtleneck with silk slacks. His new ring glittered against the black of the shirt.

"I had a hard enough time pulling him out of bed." Eeteuk commented back as he sat down on the right side of the table with Donghae.

"Well, a young man does need his rest." Shindong chimed in, pushing his glasses up on his nose again. His simple black suit complimented his rather gentle demeanor.

Junsu stood then, wearing a fine dark gray suit, and raised a glass of champagne.

"To my dear friends who have joined me tonight, I thank you. I know all of you are looking forward to my prize premiereing tomorrow night. It seems the week just slipped by under our noses."

"Some of us were busier than others." Shindong said with a chuckle.

"You're too right, my friend." Junsu nodded in amused agreement. "And it's always nice to see Heechul wearing the fruits of your labor."

Heechul beamed at that, taking Shindong's hand with his. Eeteuk grinned broadly, but Donghae just remained quiet, picking at loose thread on the tapestry laden tablecloth.

"With that greeting, a toast to all of you. I hope the premiere will be everything and more than you all wished for."

Eeteuk, Shindong and Heechul raised their glasses. The older man next to Donghae looked at him sideways and then jabbed him slightly in the ribs. Donghae looked up wide eyed and quickly raised his glass. Though he seemed aware of what was going on, his mind couldn't help but wander to other places in the mansion and where Hankyung might be.

Eunhyuk stood at the doorway of the private training center that connected to Junsu's mansion. Friday evening had already fallen over them and Yoochun was yet to arrive with Junsu's new fighters. The two were not his concern as much as the other man that was coming with them was.

"So, it's true then?" came a quiet voice from behind him.

Eunhyuk turned his attention to Jaejoong. The man was wiping his hands off with a towel, getting some of the chalk dust free from his palms.

"About finding Kangin?"

"It's true."

"Here I always thought Yoochun and you made this guy up. None of the other trainers have met him."

"He's from a different period of time. Way back before Junsu more or less took over the world of underground fighting, it was far from a glamorous job. If you were good, you made money. If you were really good, you made money and friends in high places. But if you were Kangin and his two fighters, well, you were legendary. That was over three years ago, when the best places in the world to fight were covered in dirt and grime with the smell of booze and cigarettes hanging in the air."

"You almost sound like you miss that era, Eunhyuk." Jaejoong commented.

"In a way, I think I do. Kangin, he actually taught Yoochun and I everything we know. In return, we've taught you and Changmin what we know."

"He sounds too good to be true." came an amused voice from behind.

Eunhyuk and Jaejoong both turned their attention to the young, lanky man standing with a wooden Kendo sword. The glimmer of sweat on his brow indicated he had just finished a training session with Yamapi.

"Respect your elders, Changmin." Eunhyuk replied mildly.

"Oh, you know I always do. I'm actually excited to meet this Kangin. Yoochun used to speak so highly of him."

"He was good to both of us. A great mentor. But to be quite honest, I'm not sure what to expect."

The sound of shouts suddenly drew the three members from their conversation. There was a deafening crash and more shouts, words audibly becoming angrier by the minute.

"What the hell?!" Eunhyuk exclaimed.

The three men quickly left the doorway and ran into the training room. They stopped in their tracks at the situation laying before them.

Yamapi had his real sword out, the tip gleaming dangerously. Golf and Mike were standing near him, their hands curled into tight fists, looking like they were ready to be set off. Across from them stood Hankyung, his own fists curled together. Yunho was currently laying on the ground, coughing hard.

"Yunho!" Jaejoong cried.

"BREAK IT UP!" Eunhyuk screamed.

"I don't drop my sword until he lowers his fists." Yamapi said dangerously.

"Hankyung, stand down!" Changmin shouted.

Both men continued to be at a stand still. Jaejoong wove behind Golf and Mike and dropped to his knees. He brought Yunho's head up onto his lap. The man continued to cough and then winced as he held his chest.

"Are you okay?" Jaejoong asked very softly.

Yunho nodded, though he looked a little pale.

"STAND DOWN!" Eunhyuk thundered this time.

Golf and Mike both laid their hands carefully on Yamapi's shoulders. The man tensed for a mere moment before he began to slowly lower his weapon, his eyes warily watching the Chinese man in front of him.

"It's all right, Tomo." Golf said softly, using Yamapi's first name.

"He won't do anything." Mike continued.

The sword was finally drawn back and Yamapi took a step away. The silence in the room felt heavy. Hankyung moved only slightly then, lowering his fists downward.

"What just happened?" Eunhyuk demanded as he stomped over to his fighter.

Hankyung just turned cold eyes on the other man. Despite the fact that Eunhyuk was an expert trainer, something about that gaze chilled him to the bone. He felt his mouth go dry for a moment and tried to find the words.

Yunho coughed again before he spoke.

"Just a misunderstanding." he replied blandly. "Apparently I called him by the wrong name."

"Wrong name?" Eunhyuk questioned.

"Yah, I called him..."

Hankyung turned to the sound of his real name, ready to attack the person who had said it when he stopped cold. Yoochun stood there with two young men and another man. That man moved forward, looking at the slightly taller counterpart.

"Kangin." Hankyung whispered softly.

Before anything else was said, Hankyung drew his fist back. The punch was thrown and to everyone's shock, was intercepted swiftly by another hand. The man blinked and looked up at the slender youth who was holding the force of his punch at bay.

"My name is KyuHyun." the stranger said quietly. "I would appreciate it if you were much more polite to our friend."

KyuHyun released Hankyung's hand. There was a stretched out awkward silence as Hankyung and Kangin stared at each other. The tension was beginning to fade, but in it's place came a feeling of melancholy. Kangin ran his fingers through his hair and then pointed back to the other two behind him.

"The guy with KyuHyun's name is Sungmin. He's his trainer."

Sungmin held up his hand part way, barely waving it, his expression nervous.

"Yoochun." the other man introduced himself.

Hankyung narrowed his eyes at Yoochun and then barely nodded an acknowledgement.

Another silence fell over the room before Hankyung simply turned his back on Kangin and the others. He made his way to the door leading off into their private apartments.

"Hangeng!" Kangin shouted.

Hankyung paused at the doorway and looked over his shoulder.

"Don't ever call me that again." he sharply replied. "Hangeng is dead. Just like me."

Kangin froze at that statement as Hankyung disappeared through the door. He felt Yoochun's hand on his shoulder and looked back at his long time friend.

"This could be the beginning or the end, Kangin."

Kangin nodded as the other trainers and fighters gathered over to meet him. He suddenly had the urge to drink himself into oblivion again.

The dinner had been enjoyable for everyone and the conversation had been light and comfortable. Junsu had invited everyone to his drawing room. Shindong and Heechul had claimed the couch, Heechul stretching himself out to lay his head on his partner's lap. Eeteuk had flopped on one of the large overstuffed chairs as Junsu relaxed back in his favorite leather recliner.

"Teukieah, where is our favorite little Donghae?" Heechul questioned absently.

Eeteuk rolled his eyes slightly, but smiled.

"You know how Hae can be. He was so antsy at dinner I told him to take a walk and get some of his energy out. I swear, Junsu, he's either sleeping all the time or not at all. I think he's overexcited about seeing the event tomorrow night."

Junsu chuckled warmly.

"I hope it lives up to his expectations."

"Speaking of expectations, rumor has it that you're working with Minwoo in one of his arenas for this particular endeavor." Shindong commented.

"Yes, he's always been very dedicated to the passion of fighting. He's even set up the arrangements that all of my prizes will get to show off their skills."

"What about your new one I heard you just got your little hands on?" Heechul teased. "What is his name?"

"Ah, yes, KyuHyun. He actually should have arrived with his trainer Sungmin this evening. I'm sure that Yoochun will bring them up to visit when they've settled. Apparently Yoochun also found an older trainer by the name of Kangin."

"Hmm, can't say that I've ever heard of him myself." Shindong notated.

"I'm afraid I haven't either." Eeteuk shook his head. "Is he a friend of Yoochun's?"

Junsu nodded, though his expression seemed to look neither pleased or upset.

"When I first started out in underground fighting with my investments, Kangin was considered the top trainer of all the fighters. He had two very gifted men who were the prize of the arenas. They always fought together and in perfect synchronization."

"What happened to them?" Eeteuk questioned.

"Over three years ago, there was a terrible accident. Both of them were shot, but one of them survived. The other died in the hospital." Junsu quietly answered. "After that, no one knew what happened to Kangin. He disappeared from the fighting world. It was luck that Yoochun found him."

"What were the two fighters names?" Eeteuk pressed. Something about the shadowed expression Junsu was suddenly wearing concerned him.

"The Dancer and The Charmer." Junsu responded. He then suddenly stood and his expression changed, looking bright and pleasant again. "Is anyone in the mood for some brandy?"

Donghae shuffled along one of the halls in Junsu's mansion. He had been more than annoyed at having to sit through the rather stuffy dinner party. When the conversation turned to their private "business" endeavors, Donghae swore he was going to die of boredom. When the final dish has been served, Junsu had suggested that they all go to his drawing room. Donghae had used that moment to his advantage and begged Eeteuk to let him run off some energy. He was grateful at that moment his puppy dog eyes could still sway his older friend.

The young man paused in the hallway and began to count the diamond design that was set into the long black carpet inlaying the pathway. He noticed that ever third diamond was blue while the rest were gold. Pausing for only a moment, he then stood on one of the blue diamonds and proceeded to jump to the next one. He grinned at his accomplishment and the mild rush that came from doing the act. He spotted the next diamond and proceeded to spring forward, landing squarely on the next blue marker. Swinging his arms back and forth, he then jumped forward again. This time however as he landed on his desired target, he also ran into someone standing in front of him. He flayed his arms back and forth before a set of arms caught him, steadying him in his spot.

"Hey, I'm sorry!" Donghae quickly said. "I didn't see anyone coming..."

His words faded as he looked up at a face framed by nearly white hair. His mouth went dry. He tried to form words but forget how to speak as those terrible icy eyes searched him for what felt like an eternity.

"You need to be careful." Hankyung said flatly.

"I'm s-s-sorry." Donghae stuttered.

Hankyung nodded curtly and let Donghae go. The young man swallowed back the ball in his throat. He quickly looked down at the floor and pushed his shoe into the diamond he was trying to stand on previously.

"What were you doing?"

"What?" Donghae looked up at Hankyung.

"What were you just doing?"

"Jumping." he answered simply.

"Because it's fun?" he weakly replied.

Hankyung's eyebrows knitted together at the response. He looked down the hallway at the carpet and then back at Donghae, who's eyes were gazing downward again.

"Why would that be fun?"

Donghae shrugged a little, feeling slightly foolish.

"I don't know, it just is."

"Don't you do anything fun?"

Donghae didn't know why the question came out of him, but it seemed to spill out before he could stop it.

"I fight."

"And that's fun?"

"It's what I do."

"Then it's not fun?"

Hankyung nearly glared at Donghae. However, the young man gathered up all his courage and forced himself to hold the gaze with the taller man. After a moment, Hankyung's expression softened just slightly.

"You're very strange."

"I know, Teukie tells me that all the time."

"Eeteuk, he's a friend of your employer."

"What are you doing up here?" Donghae questioned quickly.

"I... I had to get away from the training center for a moment."

"Did something happen?"

Hankyung nodded slightly. The Chinese man realized at that moment he had spoken to Donghae more than anyone else in the past three years. He inwardly frowned not understanding what made this young man different from everyone else.

"Nothing." Hankyung said sharply, his whole demeanor changing back to coldness.

Donghae felt the mood change as if someone had stuck a piece of ice into his spine. He gripped the bottom of his sweatshirt.

"I had better go. I hope that your fight goes well tomorrow."

Hankyung didn't respond. Donghae sighed softly and turned away, beginning his journey back down the hall.

"Hey." came Hankyung's voice.

"Your name is Donghae, isn't it?"

"See you tomorrow night then."

Hankyung then walked down the hall and turned the corner, seeming to melt away from Donghae's view. The young man let out the breath he didn't know he was holding and sighed softly. He shook his head but couldn't help but smile. The fighter had been rather kind to him, perhaps he wasn't as brutal a man as everyone made him out to be. Donghae turned down the opposite direction and made his way back to the drawing room.

Hankyung leaned against the wall around the corner, listening to Donghae's steps fade away. He then looked around the corner and down the hall. His eyes moved down to the designed carpet and he stood on one of the blue diamonds. After a moment, the tall man jumped forward and landed on the next blue diamond. For the briefest of moments, a ghost of a smile crossed his lips before it faded. He touched his chest, fingers tracing the round scar underneath his tank top. He felt a dull ache in his chest and he closed his eyes, lowering his head.

"I'm scared."

::chuckles:: I had to fit JaeHo in there somewhere, they were my original Kpop slash love! =^.~=V

Hai, Kyunnieah stopped Hannie's punch because as I theorized, besides being trained by Sungmin, he'd have been trained by Kangin, so that would give him some of the same maneuvers as Hankyung.

::still adores your icon::

Thank you for reading! Hankyung comes as being very tragic to me in real life, maybe because he's the foreigner? Or I just like angsting him! XD

He will meet up with Kangin again soon, and it will be a much more intense and thorough scene with them, I'm glad you enjoyed reading it!
Mar. 20th, 2008 08:05 pm (UTC)
i suppose so, i mean hes had to suffer through all that LANGUAGEBARRIER AJLSDJKAF, and then the not being able to perform, then performing with a mask, and STAYING AT THE SUJU DORM ALONE ON THANKSGIVING T.T

but then hes all happy with siwon, and all best-buddy like with heechul and so giggly (and pretty *_*) so i guess that makes it ok XD

Oh, the lure of SuJu subbed episodes... ::is also taking too much time because of "flower boy" distractions::

I admit to loving the "jumping the diamonds" sequence, it seemed like such a Fishy thing to do, and the idea of Hannie doing it was sweet!

I hope the fight sequence lives up to everyone's expectations and I'm so glad to have you back and writing again! Loved your SiHae fic!

Thanks so much for reading all the chapters! I apologize I haven't commented back to all of them, but I've greatly appreciated your kind words and your continued interest in the fic!

I thought the idea of "jumping the diamonds" was too cute too, and seemed like something that Hannie would have done when Hae wasn't around.

I hope the next chapter is worth the wait and thank you again!
